I have a video on my Canon HG21 video camera that is corrupt. I can’t detect it on my laptop, so I can’t transfer it. The beginning of the video plays okay on the camera, but when it gets to a certain part it freezes (it’s about 1 and a half hours long). Is there any software I can download to fix this corrupt file? I’ve tried photorec, but it only recovered every other video I deleted and didn’t fix the corrupt one, and Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery, which didn’t recover anything at all from my camera, not even the deleted videos. Please tell me there’s something I can do? This just so happens to be the most important video I had. I don’t even know how it corrupted, everything was working fine until now.
John, I downloaded both those softwares, but both require me to open the file with their program. I can’t do that because I can’t detect the m2ts video file on my laptop. It just doesn’t appear. Is there anything else I can do?

Chosen Answer:

Google “transport stream repair tools”.

It’s been a while since I’ve needed one of these. Last time I had to use one the tools to use were tsremux and tsmuxer. There appear to be newer tools that are better. Take a look at MPEG2Repair and TSDoctor. The format your file is in is an MPEG Transport Stream, so you want to look at tools that can repair transport streams.

Hi,
I’m italian, please excuse me for english mistakes.
I have an iPhone4 iOS 5.0.1. Last week i’ve made a BackUp with iTunes and then i sand my iphone to assistance. When the iPhone comes back,i’ve tried to add on the last backUp,but IT WAS EMPTY! and the last BackUp is from October,so i’ve lost all my photos!
that photos are very important to me,so i’ve tried some tricks, but i’m NOT expert with computers..
However,
-I have a jailbreak untethered with redsn0w just to try to use a classic recovery program. I’ve istalled with Cydia Open SSh and,on my Pc (windows xp) i’ve installed WinSCP. So I try to connect Iphone with pc with SSh,and seen it works because i can transfer file from iphone to pc and vice versa.
I’ve installed Mobile Terminal by Cydia and, after became “root” I’ve wrote the password “alpine” and I’ve wrote
dd if=/dev/disk0 | ssh username-Computer@indirizzo-IP-Computer ‘dd of=iphone-dump.img’
changing Username@ip computer with mine.
But after press enter it appears ” connection refused” or “Invalid argument”.I thought was a connection error, but i can transfer files with SSH,so i thought it was another error.
-I found on my pc what i think was the deleted failed backup, and with recuva i take back that files but its was encrypted, and i don’t know what to do with. I gathered that files in a folder and tried with backup extractor but it say there is an error with my folder. So I tried to trick iTunes putting my folder into the other backUp folders on pc,but, obviously,it doesn’t works. My folder it’s about 6 Gb and the other are about 13 Gb,but i thought maybe could save just some photos…
- I try to do a scan with a trial version of Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery, after connected with SSH iphone and pc,but i don’t knows if it works, because i can’t complete because it crash, but on the preview i saw MAYBE (’cause it’s very quickly) some of my photos, but i don’t know if this program could read iphone like external Hdisk or something similar just with SSH connection, and before buy the program i want to be sure it could works.
Now i’m giving up,but i don’t wanna to,because that photos is reallyreally important!!!
Please do you have some tricks to suggest to me?
i just want to thanks everyone could try to answer.
Thank you very much, and excuse me again for english,i hope you could understand!!
bye,

Chosen Answer:

First of all, do not save any new file to camera’s memory card.

Take out memory card, and connect it to computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer.

Download recover software asoftech photo recovery ( http://www.asoftech.com/apr/ ) Install and open asoftech photo recovery, select the memory card, and click ‘Start’ button.
Does anyone know how to get my pictures back for free??I downloaded stellar phoenix photo recovery but it wanted me to pay …….lol my pictures are only like 30,they aren’t worth that much =P

thank you sooooooooooo much SIMPLY RED,,i <3333333 u
it worked right away but not all the pictures came back but its good enough!!
THAAAAANK YOU

Chosen Answer:

Use Recuva to recover them for free:

http://www.piriform.com/recuva

There’s no guarantee that you can recover everything as they may have been written over by newer data as you continue using the camera.

Oh, BTW, hit your brother on the head with a book for me after you’ve recovered you pictures!

EDIT: You’re welcome!

I only had few photos (maybe 20) in the memory card, so I thought this should be a simply task, which hasn’t been.

First I tried that Stellar photo recovery software, it scanned EVERYTHING from all kinds of sources and some images said “file corrupted” and I cannot view a preview – then I checked some online forums and I realized even if the scan is successful, if I want to SAVE the recovered photos to my computer I have to pay for the license. BTW it did not recover ANY of the photos from the mem card, but it did recover some other useless images that I don’t even know where they came from.

I’m now using Recuva software and it’s still scanning after I pressed the “scan from all drives” option, since when I pressed “scan from drive E (removable)” it “did not find any files” – which is so funny because the mem card IS in drive E removable disk. This software is supposedly free to scan AND use (meaning to save?).

I don’t know what the problem is. I simply formatted the memory card so the images MUST still be there even though it said in my camera that ”formatting will delete” because from what I read.. formatting does not delete the actual file, which is really just hidden there somewhere.

The reason why I chose to format was because I believe the memory card got a virus from my laptop, which got it from my co-worker’s usb, which he claimed was already cleaned from the 70 viruses it got. Yeah, what an idiot because he did not bother asking me permission if he could use his usb on my laptop >:( btw my laptop was already all rebooted and cleaned up (unfortunately the card was already infected and I just formatted like, awhile back, in desperate measures to recover the photos in it).

I’m not really that knowledgeable about computers so pls. help me out. Thank u in advance. sorry about the rant.

Chosen Answer:

you should be able to get your photos back if you didn’t save any new files after formatting.
1. Connect your card to computer. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer.
2. Download recovery software, recommended one is asoftech photo recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked)

http://www.asoftech.com/apr/

3. Install and open asoftech photo recovery, select your memory drive, and click ‘Start’ button.
So when i took a look at it I asked him what and how he did it.
He replied by showing me it again which deleted the next picture we took as an example.
So then i realized he had formatted it twice; first by accident, second from showing it to me.
So i was wondering if there was a really good software that’s free and can get back my formatted pictures, not the recent ones, but the previous ones.
Please give me a really software because I have tried downloading more than 5 and none of them worked. By the way please don’t suggest the following because i’ve tried them :

- Data recovery wizard
- Card recovery
- Recuva
-PhotoRescue
-Stellar photo recovery
- Digital photo recovery

Thank you so much for your support, I hope my pictures come back soon

You can also try to recover your formatted memory card with Easy Drive Data Recovery software:

http://www.munsoft.com/EasyDriveDataRecovery/

It uses unique modern algorithms to recover files that other software either recovers incorrectly or is unable to detect.

Thanks Calvin, but I can’t detect the video file on my laptop at all, so I can’t convert it. That’s my problem; I need to find a way to fix it without having to open the file (because I can’t), so I can transfer it to my laptop.

I’ve went through quite a lot of Google search results about corrupted/incomplete/broken MP4 files and see a lot of people with the same problem and no decent answers that result in successfully making the files readable. I have a few recovered mp4s I need to “fix”. I.e. every time I try to open them in Quicktime/Windows Media Player/Divx Player/VLC I get an error message like “file type not supported!” or “unsupported perimeters!” So basically the files are unreadable. Looking at the history of this in Yahoo answers people seem to suggest programs like Stellar Photo Recovery or Asoftech Recovery but these are software you need to pay to actually get results. I just don’t want to spend on software that’s probably going to say oops not a file format srykthxbye. I got the trial of Stellar and it couldn’t even show a preview for one of the mp4s in question so that’s not very promising.

tl;dr anyone here purchase the full version of Stellar photo recovery or Asoftech Recovery and it actually worked? Or is there anything else you might suggest to convert these files into something I can actually see? Thanks in advance to any non half-***’d answers.

Hi,
I’m italian, please excuse me for english mistakes.
Thank you very much, and excuse me again for english,i hope you could understand!!
bye,
Eleonora
